Here is Lux and Ivy’s Favorites volume 19! This volume is
taken from a track listing that Lisa Petrucci from Something Weird Video sent
me earlier this year. Sadly the tape itself is lost as of this writing so the
tracks here are from the track listing that came with a bunch of other tapes. Lux was a HUGE fan of SWV and was friends with
Mike Vraney, the visionary who started the company back in the early 90’s.
According to Lisa, Lux’s favorite series of videos from the company were their
Nudie Cutie line of VHS tapes. There are 100’s of them, now on DVD-R and streaming
via Somethingweird.com! Lisa said Mike told her that Lux used to do house work
while the tapes (and their music) would play in the background. An astounding
visual reference; Lux in heels vacuuming or dusting while video of vixens
prancing around in their altogether
played in the background!
At one point Lux started sending Mike cassette tapes full of
music and Mike used the songs over the loops on various volumes of Nudie
Cuties. Over the years I’ve come across cassette tapes here and there that Lux
had made, he made LOTS of tapes back in the day. Sometimes he would “name” the
tapes a combination of some of the songs on each tape. That’s how “Forbidden
City Dog Food” and “Flameout on the Rancho Grande” came to be. Flameout became
LAIF #16 and FCDF has become legendary over the years.
Volume 19 comes with the subheading, “King Tut’s Beach
Party,” a combination of the Neil Hefti Batman themed album and Santo and
Johnny’s Off Shore Album (King Tut’s Tomb plus Midnight Beach Party = King
Tut’s Beach Party)! Lux wrote the title on the cassette tape along with some
little drawings which we have incorporated into the artwork for this volume
along with the cover of the Off Shore album to continue the theme.
Like volume 16, this is mostly a feast for lounge,
soundtrack, and easy listening addicts. Though we get some Ventures and Bobby
Fuller tracks (which are amazing) to go along with the exotic and the
fantastic.
Enjoy this great volume with an exotic beverage of your
choice, dim the lights, and settle in to your jungle room with the one you
love.
Thanks to Lisa Petrucci for sending me all these amazing
treasures, and thanks as always to Adam Fitch for working with me on the cover.
Volume 20 is in the works and will be similar to volume 18,
more outer space madness and various other tunes, beyond that is anybody’s
guess. I have more tapes from the Something Weird Audio Archives to go through,
and TONS more of songs to identify!
No need to bootleg this, here it is for free for your
listening enjoyment!
